Happy trails…

Maintaining this blog has always been a bit of a juggle, since I launched it just before I also started a career shift. But it HAS been fun. And it’s been a great excuse to keep reading sports magazines and stalking social media for inspirational role models and challenging workouts. But it’s time to admit that I don’t have the bandwidth to keep it up.

In some ways, the timing is ironic, because I’ve finally shifted into a higher gear in my own fitness pursuits. In August, I signed up for a 90-day “vegan transformation” program to get more serious about veganism AND workouts (I call myself “95% vegan;” I allow farm eggs from a parishioner once/week, and if someone offers me a small plate of a fun dessert at a church potluck, I don’t ask about the ingredients), I shed 15 pounds (and counting), and – best of all – the changes I’m making to diet and routine are starting to feel sustainable and habitual. There just isn’t much time or energy for blogging, right now. And if I can figure out the time and energy part, I’m going to focus my blogging/writing attention on natural history topics at this page that has been waiting almost a year for me to open it up: North Coast Nature Notes. (There’s nothing there, yet.)

This has been fun, and I hope it has been occasionally inspiring for you. It has been for me!

  1. Ah — wow, nice work on the eating. It’s tough. I never could give up eggs. Congratulations! You’ll be missed. I’m starting a low-residency MFA program in nonfiction writing in June at Bennington College. Pretty psyched. Happy trails, indeed. Wild gratitude, Suez

  2. Thanks for all the useful tips and inspiring stories along the way. Truly respect your acknowledging not having the bandwidth to keep it up. I’m paraphrasing someone who said: “True genius knows its limits.” It’s good to know you’ll have more time and energy for the stuff that matters most to you in the here and now. And congrats on shedding some pounds. Happy trails to you.
